The Prophecy, the Poison, and the Polymer

“When Merlin’s Oak shall tumble down, then shall fall Carmarthen town.”

Every local knows the curse. Myrddin, in a fit of either profound architectural foresight or just a spectacularly bad mood, supposedly bound the fate of the entire town to a single tree on Priory Street.

It is a terrifying piece of local lore. It is also completely absurd.

Let us look at the actual history of this dreaded timber. The famous oak wasn’t even planted by a wizard; it was likely planted around 1659 to celebrate the return of King Charles II. It survived a couple of centuries of Welsh weather, only to be murdered in the 1850s.

Was it destroyed by a rival sorcerer? A dark plague? No. It was poisoned by a grumpy local who was annoyed that people kept loitering under its branches. A remarkably petty, entirely mundane assassination.

Yet, the prophecy held the town hostage. For over a century, the dead, rotting corpse of the tree was left standing in the middle of the road. It was propped up with concrete, bound in iron rings, and treated like a live bomb simply because the locals were too terrified of a dead wizard’s threat to move a traffic hazard.

They finally dragged the pathetic, petrified stump away in 1978. And look around—Carmarthen is somehow still standing. The apocalypse was delayed. The remaining chunks of the oak are now sitting quietly in a museum display case.

But the shadow of that tree—the paranoia, the weight of the old myths, the idea that something crafted could hold that much power—is exactly why we forge what we do.

We do not deal in rotting timber or cheap, injection-molded plastic that belongs in a landfill. The old world is dead. In the space left behind by Myrddin’s aggressive landscaping, we are spinning up the multi-color extruders to build artifacts that actually endure.

Inside The Oak’s Shadow, we are not waiting for the town to wash away. We are weaving together modern, heavy-duty materials—Dark Forest Green, raw Wood, heavy Bronze, and flashes of pure Gold. We are constructing volatile, perfectly calibrated kinetic engines and architectural tabletop domains that demand respect.

If you want standard, mass-produced cardboard and flimsy plastic, the high street is still out there waiting for you.

But if you want the restricted, heavy assemblies forged in the dark… you will have to find the ledger, petition the Council, and hope we deem you worthy of the shadow.
